What to expect at your first osteopathic appointment

Your first appointment is relaxed, thorough, and tailored to you.
Your osteopath will take time to understand your symptoms, goals, medical history, lifestyle, and any previous injuries or treatments.
With your consent, they will assess your posture, movement, and areas of discomfort using gentle hands-on assessment and relevant tests if needed.
Your findings will be clearly explained, treatment options discussed, and you’ll be involved in decisions about your care. Treatment may begin at your first visit and is always adjusted to your comfort.
Before you leave, you may be given advice on exercises, movement, or lifestyle changes to support your recovery between appointments.
After Your Appointment
Some people experience mild soreness or fatigue following treatment—this is normal and usually settles within 24–48 hours. Your osteopath will explain what to expect and when to seek further advice.
What to wear
Comfortable clothing that allows movement is ideal. You may be asked to remove outer layers for assessment, but your comfort and dignity are always respected.
